History of Multicultural Business Institute’s foundation

Multicultural Business Institute was founded in January 2015.

Since its beginnings, the Institute launched its first intercultural, educational and community-oriented project: INDIAN BUSINESS VISION- learning from Indian expertise of corporations, managers and entrepreneurs in Romania.

The program’s mission was to promote and facilitate intercultural Romanian-Indian ties and exchanges in terms of values and practices, starting from the business field by taking the specific knowledge, expertise and know-how, as well as the values and story of each Indian firm, entrepreneur or manager, through structured interviews.

On January 20, 2015, Multicultural Business Institute participated with Indian Business Vision project at the presentation of COM’ON Cluj-Napoca-Youth Participatory Budgeting in Cluj2015, European Youth Capital. Young people, migrants and Romanian alike, were introduced to the COM’ON project by its initiators: PONT Group in partnership with Cluj Intercultural Awareness Organisation (CIAO), SHARE Federation and Cluj-Napoca City Hall and Council.

The strategic aim of the COM’ON Cluj-Napoca project was to create a portfolio of 250 small projects that were proposed by informal groups of young people (regardless of ethnicity, gender, work experience or academic background status, place of origin), addressed to the local community, voted by the Cluj youth and financed by Cluj-Napoca Municipality. The projects had to contribute to the inhabitant’s active participation in the life of the community, involve inhabitants in proactive actions, unfold in public and common spaces and assure free entry for the inhabitants without any financial barrier (ticket).

Indian Business Vision project, with a version designed for young people’s benefit, passed the organisers’ evaluation and was a finalist project after the voting period.

Based on the experience gained in the first 2 projects and from the people that gathered around Multicultural Business Institute, in July 2015 the Institute launched its first academic project: Alexandra Cotae’ s dissertation thesis (with the same title as the above mentioned projects) graduate of the master’s program International Business Administration and Communication”, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Babeş-Bolyai University.

Further on, Multicultural Business Institute’s activity has been developed by launching a series of the interviews taken to business people of diverse cultural origins, as well as other cultural ambassadors of the foreign cultures and professionals with multicultural expertise. The purpose of the program is to take the cultural ambassadors’ life experience, professional know-how, views and solutions on the improvement of the social, cultural and professional environment and share them to the public in various adapted forms: video documentaries to be published on Institute’s media channels, written articles for the Institute’s magazine, scientific papers and volumes.
